Here is a review for the game Mystery Case Files: Fate’s Carnival. This genre of game is called hidden object game (HOG).
I’ve been a fan of the MCF (Mystery Case File) series for a while now, I have brought and played all the series starting from Ravenhearst. Now BigFish and Elephant games releases their latest and 10th edition of the series, Fate’s Carnival, this is kind of the sequel from the original franchise MCF: Madam Fate in 2007.
So come step right up, buy your tickets and line up for a hell of a show.
Madam fate is back from the dead and she needs your help in solving the mystery of the curse of the carnival. All the characters from the original MCF: Madam Fate are back. The carnival is bigger, brighter and more spooky than ever. The atmosphere of the carnival is livelier, a festive mood and as creepy and dark than before. The puzzles are inventive, fun and quite grueling at times; the phrase “I need to think outside the box” will come to mind and yes most of the time this is true, you need to think in unconventional manner in order to find the solution for the problem at hand, this game promises to test the limit of your imagination.
The gameplayis basically the same as on the previous installments, but this time around Big Fish&Elephant Games, have set the bar higher. They always have a knack for making their games as fresh and innovative as possible. They went back to their old formula when it comes to puzzles and adding some new edition. The hidden objects are excellent in range, and seem to appear in appropriate times in your journey, with fantastic interactive parts and mini-games unfold equally throughout the carnival.
The artwork is just spectacular, the eerie atmosphere along with great sounds effects and lighting, a perfect combination that just makes you jump out of your seat.
At the start of the game there will an option for the mode of difficulty, choose what level that you are comfortable with, the selections are from “Easy Knievel” for casual play to “Monstrously Hard” for those who are looking for a bit of challenge and if you unlock the “Alister’s Watch” mode there will be a time limit for every puzzle, this mode is for advance player. For casual play there in an interactive help and also a hint option on the lower right corner, this will greatly help you out on your journey to help the carnies. I must admit in some occasion a little hint is all I need to crack a puzzle, so if you are in jammed don’t worry about it, just click the hint and it will provide clues on what you need to do.
You can also use this skip option, this will automatically close the current puzzle that your working on and let you proceed to your next task. There is also a strategy guide, a step by step visual aid to help you along and provide a walkthrough of the whole game. Quite helpful but I suggest using this guide as a last option.
For the story I would say it’s pretty much straightforward, the only problem is that if you’re not familiar with the other franchise of the series, or this is your first time playing the Mystery Case File game, it will be kind of hard to follow the story. Well let me give you a brief overview of the story. The silent and mysterious detective, which you play was assigned with a case regarding the disappearance of Emma Ravenhearst. As you investigate, you will later find out that this case is not as simple as it seems, it’s no longer a missing person case, but a rescue mission. The story mostly revolve around a dark ritual that imprisoned Emma and it is your job to uncover the mystery and free her soul. The villain of this story was her demented husband Charles, who wants to keep Emma lock within the Ravenhearst manor forever.

Charles is involve in some dark research regarding the usage of souls for unlocking the secrets of immortality. So the story starts there, and now here on the new series Fates Carnival the person who taught Charles in the dark arts is the person who is responsible for the curse of the carnival. It’s now your job to save the carnies from their doomed fate.
In my opinion if you find this kind of game fun and exciting or just love solving puzzles as I do. I strongly suggest that you try out playing the other franchise that is part of the MCF series. I assure you that it’s every bit of fun and mysterious as this new edition is.
